Psalm 88 has long been considered a Messianic psalm. It is filled with prayers and confessions which could only be uttered in truth by the Son of Man. Some of the petitions in the psalm is found in verses 15-17:
15 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death;
I have borne your terrors and am in despair.
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
your terrors have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood;
they have completely engulfed me.
What? Jesus suffering the terrors of God? Yes. Suffering from His youth upward? Yes. A full life of sorrows? Yes. Jesus was being prepared to submit to the cross from His youth onward. What a Friend and Comfort we have in our times of sorrow and grief. If you despair that no man understands your sorrows, their is One who truly, fully, and compassionately knows thy heart’s griefs…. and He travels with you today.
